Like previous occasions, the Consulate of the Republic of Indonesia in Karachi has participated in all major events of Sindh, particularly in Karachi. Recently, the Indonesian Consulate General also availed the opportunity to participate in ‘My Karachi-Oasis of Harmony” Exhibition held in Karachi Expo Centre from 11th to 13th June, 2010.
On this occasion, the Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia arranged a Cultural Show on Saturday, 12th June, 2010 at Play Area of the Karachi Expo Centre. 7 (seven) Indonesian Traditional Dances were performed, such as: Puspawresti Dance, Badindin Dance, Blantek Dance, Tanjung Katung Dance, Piring Dance, Sajojo Dance and Poco-poco Dance which revealed the rich of Indonesian Culture from varied provinces of Indonesia.
As a chief guest, Ms. Fauzia Wahab, Chairperson National Assembly’s Finance Committee on her visit to the 7th My Karachi Exhibition said that it was a marvelous display of culture by Indonesia and in the era when we are going far from the cultural activities, such shows captivate and make us feel close to ourselves. Ms. Fauzia Wahab viewed stunning display of Indonesian Performances representing different regions of Indonesia. She also lauded the efforts of Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry, in organizing such events which attract crowds in large numbers should be showcased, not just once but twice every year. She also congratulated KCCI of organizing a successful event for the eager and thirsting Karachiites.
On relations with Indonesia she said that Pakistan enjoys good ties with Indonesia and in this regard our Bandung treaty and Conference is an important landmark. Ms. Fauzia also visited the Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia pavilion with KCCI and also took part in announcing the lucky draw.
A large number of Print and Electronic Media covered this event. In reply to questions by the Media, the Acting Consul General said that Indonesia has a very rich background of Culture as well as the land of Sindh also has a very rich cultural history and hence both the brotherly nations have many similarities in this field.
Acting Consul General of Indonesia in Karachi, Trigustono Supriyanto also said that such exhibitions encourage business communities to explore new avenues of trade and economic cooperation. He will certainly gain a lot of experience and encouragement from this exhibition, he said, adding, he hopes that the event is used as a platform by business communities to understand each other’s needs and introduce their products to people in both countries. He urged the business community of Pakistan, especially the business community of Sindh, to come forward with their proposals and suggestions to improve trade relations between Pakistan and Indonesia.
Among other dignitaries, President KCCI Abdul Majeed Haji Mohammed and prominent business community leaders like Mr. Siraj Kasim Teli were present on this occasion.
