Zimbabwe has been invited to the 16th Ministerial Conference of the Non-Aligned Movement in Bali, Indonesia in May. Speaking to journalists after meeting Foreign Affairs Minister Simbarashe Mumbengegwi in Harare yesterday, Indonesia's director for African Affairs, Mr Andradjati, said Zimbabwe was also invited to NAM's 50th anniversary commemorations, which will be held concurrently.

"This is my first visit to Zimbabwe and the purpose of the visit was to deliver a letter from my Minister of Foreign Affairs inviting Zimbabwe's Foreign Affairs Minister (Simbarashe) Mumbengegwi to participate in the 16th Ministerial Conference of NAM and the Ministerial meeting to commemorate the 50th anniversary of NAM.  "The conference will be held in Bali, Indonesia from May 25 to 27," he said.  The last NAM Ministerial Conference was held in Egypt, with members calling for an immediate end to illegal Western sanctions on Zimbabwe.

Mr Andradjati said he would also meet Foreign Affairs Ministry officials to boost bilateral relations.  He said they were finalising a draft agreement for establishment of a Joint Commission between Harare and Jakarta.  Last week the two countries signed a memorandum of understanding mutual agricultural development.  "Last week Zimbabwe's Minister of Agriculture (Joseph Made) was in Indonesia and we signed a Memorandum of Understanding.

"Indonesia is also seeking Zimbabwe's support to the post of director-general of the Food Agricultural Organisation at its next summit to be held in Rome in July," he said.
