The Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of the , H.E. Dr. Bernard Bot, and entourage will visit on 16-18 August 2005. This visit, which is the fourth visit in two years, reflects the commitment of the Government of the to strengthen bilateral relations with .
During his stay, Minister Bot will pay a courtesy call on the President of the
, Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs, Chairman of the People’s Consultative Assembly, and Chairman of the House of Representatives. Minister Bot will also conduct a bilateral meeting with the Foreign Minister of Indonesia, attend a reception commemorating the 60th anniversary of the independence of , and attend the independence ceremony at the
Bilateral relations between and the have shown significant progress within the past couple years. Trade between the two countries reached US$ 2.27 billion in 2004 with a rise of 20.28 % from the US$ 1.77 billion recorded in 2003. In 2004 experienced a net trade surplus of US$ 1.3 billion with the . The is also one of the main investors in with total investments of US$ 258.7 million (34 projects) in 2004.
In 2004, both countries signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to intensify bilateral relations. Both countries have also conducted a Mixed Commission to improve cooperation in the fields of trade, investment, agriculture, transportation, tourism, and etc. The Mixed Commission meeting was followed by a bilateral meeting to discuss the rehabilitation and reconstruction of Aceh.
