Vice Chairman of the Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation of the Republic of Indonesia, Rofi 'Munawar led the delegation of the House of Representatives and the Foreign Affairs Ministry to attend the meeting of the Standing Committee on Economic and Sustainable Development Affairs held by the Bahrain's Government on 25-26 April 2017.
The meeting, was held within the framework of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA) and attended by around 96 people from 21 member countries. The meeting discussed related issues in the region, including energy, poverty, economic growth, environment and sustainable development. The meeting was also intended to develop economic and financial cooperation in Asia.
Speaker of the Council of Representatives of the Kingdom of Bahrain, Ahmed Ebrahim Al Mulla, in his speech, among others, expressed his appreciation of Indonesia's proposal in the previous APA meeting to set up an APA Committee on Sustainable Development Goals in the framework of APA cooperation.
In an opportunity to present his speech before the Committee, H.E. Rofi' Munawar conveyed that APA member countries should be more proactive in responding the economic challenges and sustainable development. Indonesia believes that APA can be one of the media to strengthen the cooperation between countries to answer common challenges.
In addition to Indonesia, other countries that attended the meeting were Afghanistan, Bahrain, Bhutan, PRC, Cyprus, Iran, Cambodia, Iraq, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Kuwait, Laos, Pakistan, Palestine, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Syria, Thailand and United Arab Emirates.
