Tawau – Indonesian Consulate (KRI) in Tawau facilitated the return of 2 Indonesians on Monday (5/6). Both of them are victims of speed boat accidents in Batu Payung, Tinagat, Tawau, Malaysia on February 7. The accident killed 10 people both Indonesian citizens and Malaysian citizens, including the couple's daughter who is still 1.5 years old.
After receiving medical treatment, Budiman Bin Muslimin (27) and Hasmidah Binti Masniaga (25) are in protection of Indonesian Consulate in Tawau by living in temporary shelter provided by Indonesian Consulate in Tawau for more than 4 months. During this period, both received assistance in the form of medical assistance for the recovery of accidents, spiritual guidance to let their daughter's loss sincerely, assistance to follow the legal process, and administrative assistance to homecoming documentation.
Both of them were under the investigation of the accident case by Malaysian Police (Polisi Diraja Malaysia/PDRM) before they can return to Indonesia. Malaysian Police had made them as a witness in the case of lawsuits for the speedboat driver. On May 17, 2017, on the approach of Indonesian Consulate in Tawau and PDRM request, it had been decided by the Magistrates Court Tawau to return them to their country because their information is not needed anymore.
As a commitment to provide protection to Indonesian Citizen/Indonesian Workers, Indonesian Consulate in Tawau assigned Task Force PWNI KRI Tawau to accompany them till the port of Tanontaka, Nunukan District, North Kalimantan. Furthermore, they will be handed over to BP3TKI Nunukan, Nunukan Labor and Transmigration Office, Immigration Nunukan, Nunukan Police Chief and Nunukan Port Health Center to be repatriated to their home areas in Sulawesi.
Tawau is the third largest city in Sabah bordering Sebatik Island and Nunukan Island, North Kalimantan. Its location which is very close to Indonesia makes it be the entrance and exit of Indonesian Citizens or Malaysia citizens who do not have valid travel documents. Those who do not have documents, usually ride a boat or a small speed boat that does not have good safety equipment. (Source: TPID KRI Tawau (SDI/FA))
