67th Anniversary of Indonesian Independence Day, August 17, 2012

Yesterday at 10.00 am, August 17th, 2012, Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Dhaka held a flag-raising ceremony in front of the Embassy’s building to commemorate the Independence Day of the Republic of Indonesia.

 

The ceremony was led by His Excellency Mr. Zet Mirzal Zainuddin, the Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to the People’s Republic of Bangladesh. Around 150 Indonesian citizens residing in or in visit to Dhaka, including the Embassy staff, attended the ceremony, together with the Indonesian Honorary Consul in Chittagong.

 

In his address at the ceremony, H.E. the Ambassador read excerpt of the speech of the President of the Republic of Indonesia for the occasion.

 

The speech, among others, reaffirms Indonesia’s commitment for continued contribution to global peace, fairness and welfare, despite the current global challenges.

 

Among those highlighted was Indonesia’s efforts to ensure solution for the ethnic conflict in Myanmar which grew into a humanitarian problem, while continue to support Myanmar’s democratization and nation building.

 

Elsewhere in Southeast Asia, Indonesia’s continuous drive toward consolidation of ASEAN integration and its central role in regional architecture have started to pay off, as the ASEAN member countries very recently have reached consensus on six-point principles on the South China Sea.

 

In a wider scale, Indonesia’s development platform proposed to Rio+20 Summit, which is “sustainable growth with equity”, would serve as basis for Indonesia’s contribution in formulating the new world development agenda, Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the continuation of MDGs.     

 

Apart from the excerpt of the President’s speech, H.E. the Ambassador also delivered his personal message to the Indonesian citizens residing in or in visit to Dhaka to continue to adhere to the law of the land and to maintain good relationship with local community.

 

On another note, H.E. the Ambassador express his pleasure to the appointment of an Indonesian citizen, Dr. Cecep Effendi, as the Director General – Centre on Integrated Rural Development for Asia and the Pacific (CIRDAP), a Dhaka-based international organization. Dr. Cecep Effendi attended the ceremony in his personal capacity as an Indonesian citizen.  

 

After the flag-raising ceremony, H.E. the Ambassador met and chatted with Indonesian citizens who attended the ceremony, as well as having interview with several journalist from printed and electronic media. (Source : Indonesian Embassy in Dhaka)​
