INDONESIAN FASHION EXTRAVAGANZA 2017

 

The Consulate of the Republic of Indonesia in Darwin with Dharma Wanita Persatuan (DWP) of the Consulate of the Republic of Indonesia and Legislative Assembly Northern Territory proudly present Indonesian Fashion Extravaganza 2017 on 12 May 2017 in the Parliament House, Darwin. Representing the collective creative wealth of Indonesian culture, this fashion fiesta will carry the theme "Enchanting Indonesian Flora".


This event will take the form of catwalk show and will feature the work of four renowned Indonesian designers namely Handy Hartono, Nita Seno Adji, Rudy Chandra and Defrico Audi, showcasing fifteen to thirty looks each. This year Indonesian Fashion Show is exceptional in that it is the first time the work of four international Indonesian designers will be showcased in Darwin. Another highlight from this event will be the participation of students from Charles Darwin University and different schools in Darwin as models who will walk the runway.


This show presents an opportunity for Indonesian designers to display their talent and creative identities, as well as to show the public in Darwin the unique features of Indonesian cultures, both traditional and modern in the form of ready to wear fashion.


"As we all are aware, Indonesian culture is truly rich and diverse, and this is what we want to reflect, we want to introduce some of our traditional pattern and textile into product that show signature of Indonesian character. In the past years, Indonesian fashion has received more recognition in the international scene. Darwin as one of the closest neighbouring city should get better acquainted with it" said Eurika Putri Aninditha, Chairwoman of the Indonesian Women Association of the Consulate of the Republic of Indonesia.


Indonesian Consul in Darwin, Andre Omer Siregar said, "Indonesia's fashion industry as one of Indonesia's creative products have shown to be well accepted in the international market. Aiming to be one of the world's fashion centre, the Indonesia government, with all fashion elements in the country including industry, association, and academics, are working together to promote Indonesian fashion in the international scene. We are looking forward to introducing Indonesia's diverse culture in the form of fashion products to Territorian, not only as just a product but also as a means to better understand Indonesia and its people."


More information about this event will be presented at the Press Conference on Thursday, 11 May 2017 at 8 a.m. in Indonesia Residence, 13 Garden Hills Crescent, Darwin. (RA)
