AMBON NIGHT 2017

AND SPICE ISLAND DARWIN TO AMBON YACHT RACE

 

The Consulate of the Republic of Indonesia in Darwin with City of Darwin proudly present Ambon Night 2017 on 3 August 2017 in the Consulate of the Republic of Indonesia Parking Lot, 20 Harry Chan Avenue, Darwin. Representing the enchanting and festive culture of Ambon, Indonesia, this cultural presentation will carry the theme "Vivacious Ambon Manise". This event will be filled with lively songs and dances well known as one of Ambon people characteristics and way of life, performed by some Indonesian talents from Ambon as well as from Indonesian local Darwinian.

Other than just to presents the Ambon Culture, this event also intended to celebrate the close relationship between Ambon and Darwin and the departure of all yachters participating in Spice Island Darwin to Ambon Yacht Race 2017. This year, 18 yachts will take part in this race. The Flag Off for this race will be held at 5 August 2017 in Stokes Hills Wharf.

Spice Island Darwin to Ambon Yacht Race is the new name for the long-standing yacht race competition Darwin to Ambon Yacht Race, organize by Dinah Beach Cruising Yacht Association, which this year will be celebrating the 18th Anniversary. This race has become one of the real implementations of the sister city cooperation between City of Darwin and City of Ambon, and preserve its means to strengthen people to people connections between the two cities.

In this year event, the Vice Mayor of Ambon, Mr. Syarif Hadler will also come and sign the new MoU cooperation between City of Ambon and Dinah Beach Yacht Club Association.

"City of Darwin fosters a strong relationship with Ambon through the Sister Cities program and I am delighted to be celebrating our strong cross-cultural links with Indonesia on this special night" said Lord Mayor of Darwin, Kathrina Fong Lim. 

Indonesian Consul in Darwin, Andre Omer Siregar said, "The proximity between Darwin and Ambon has always been a bridge for both peoples and their sailors since the mid-1800s. Therefore this race is not only to deepen tourism and economic opportunities, but this Spice Island Darwin to Ambon Yacht Race is testament to all great sailor who've not only mastered these seas over the many decades, and also a beacon of a strong friendship bonds that have and will always be between Darwin and Ambon. The presence of both City government of Ambon and Darwin here is also a strong commitment to continue this long tradition."

This is event is open for public from 6pm – 9 pm. Food and drink are available for sale from non-profit organization. (RA)
