INDONESIA’S FIGHT AGAINST EXTRAORDINARY CRIME: ILLICIT DRUGS

​Drugs-related abuse and crimes kill 40 Indonesians every day and leave thousand others without adequate education. There are 4.5 million people undergoing drug rehabilitation, while 1.2 million are still trapped in drug addiction. The amount of substance being misused is astonishing: 2 tons of heroin, 49.5 tons of crystal meth, 147 million pills of ecstasy and 242 tons of marijuana. It costs the Indonesian economy over 57 trillion rupiah or almost 5.6 billion AUD.

​ ​In the past one month, the international community was shocked by terrorist atrocities that killed two people in the Lindt café, Sydney and 12 people at the Paris, France-based Charlie Hebdo weekly. Indonesia strongly condemns these barbaric attacks. These were also an attack on our common values of democracy and freedom of expression.
TAIL OF THE AIRASIA FLIGHT QZ8501 FOUND

​ According to the Indonesian National Search and Rescue Agency (BASARNAS), from the result of the side scan sonar and multibeam echosounder, the parts of the airplane that has the initial “A and X” and matched with the body of the plane was found. The divers were sent to take the picture and it is confirmed that they had found the parts of the tail.

​On 30 December 2015 the Indonesian National Search and Rescue Agency (BASARNAS) confirmed that the debris found earlier that day in the Karimata Strait, Indonesia, was from the missing AirAsia Flight QZ8501. In this difficult moment, we would like to extend our profound sympathies to the family and friends of the passengers and crew of the downed AirAsia flight.
