Bonsai lovers in Argentina will have a special opportunity to explore this traditional art directly from a world-class master of bonsai from Indonesia, Mr. Robert Steven.
In his inaugural tour to Latin America, Mr. Steven will conduct a two-day bonsai workshop which will be held from 7 to 8 August in Buenos Aires.
The presence of Mr. Steven’s visit to Argentina is by the invitation of the Bonsai Puntoar Magazine.
According to Ms. Gurruchaga, who heads the Bonsai Studio in Buenos Aires the community of bonsai lovers in Argentina has developed quite well and most are professionals with different backgrounds notably such as surgeons and politicians. Ms. Gurruchaga reported that the cabinet secretary of the Argentine government Mr. Aníbal Fernández – an avid lover of bonsai, plans to attend the workshop.
On 6 August, accompanied by Mrs. Marita Gurruchaga and the producers of Asia, Lejano Oriente, Mr. Steven met with Mr. Aníbal Fernández at the Casa Rosada. During that cordial meeting Mr. Steven gave a copy of his book to Mr. Fernández and shared their passion about bonsai.
During Mr. Steven’s workshop, the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia will present a cultural performance of traditional dances.
Previous to his visit to Buenos Aires, Mr Steven has conducted a workshop in Caracas, Venezuela on July 30.
Mr. Steven is an expert and connoisseur of the Japanese and Chinese schools of bonsai and admits that his work reflects both influences. His passion for bonsai began in 1979, his works have won prizes in more than two hundred national and international competitions.
Robert Steven was born in Indonesia, scholar Steven plays various functions in numerous world associations of bonsai, is an international judge, an enthusiastic supporter of Penjing and expressionism and surrealism in bonsai. He is also a writer, editor and contributor to magazines and global forums.
