The Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Brussels would like to invite you to learn Indonesian language and its culture. We are organizing a language class in the Embassy at Avenue de Tervuren 294, 1150 Brussels
Indonesia is a country of multi-ethnicity with more than 370 ethnic groups and more than 700 ethnic languages are used in daily lives. Indonesian is the official language of the country, known to have roots from Malay and Sanskrit inscription. The language use Latin script and regular orthography, making it a relatively approachable language for English-speaking learners. We offer you two ways to learn Indonesian. If you are looking for a degree and continued study of the language, you can choose the distance learning method offered Indonesian Language Program (ILP) or Program Bahasa Indonesia untuk Penutur Asing (BIPA-UT). It is a certificate program for non-native speakers of Indonesian language. It is designed and administered by Universitas Terbuka (Indonesia Open University) to facilitate non-native speakers who wish to learn and improve proficiency in the language, yet, without having to physically attend the conventional classroom.
The program is delivered online, including its registration, payment of tuition fees, learning materials, tutorials, and learning assessment. The program's goal is to facilitate students to learn and improve their Indonesian language proficiency, in spoken and written forms, and in formal and informal contexts of situation. Special attention is particularly given to the students' mastery of daily and common expressions and some cultural features inherent to the language use.
You may choose one of the three offered courses that suit your language proficiency level. Please refer the general objective of each course to estimate your proficiency before you choose your course category.
- Elementary Course (13 weeks duration)
Learner is able to understand and use familiar everyday expressions and very basic phrases aimed at the satisfaction of needs of a concrete type. Learner is able to introduce him/her self and others and can ask and answer questions about personal details such as where he/she lives, people he/she knows and things he/she has. Learner is able to interact in a simple way provided the other person talks slowly and clearly and is prepared to help.
- Intermediate Course (13 weeks duration)
Learner is able to understand the main points of clear standard input on familiar matters regularly encountered in work, school, leisure, etc. Learner is able to deal with most situations likely to arise whilst travelling in an area where the language is spoken. Learner is able to produce simple connected text on topics which are familiar or of personal interest. Learner is able to describe experiences and events, dreams, hopes & ambitions and briefly give reasons and explanations for opinions and plans.
- Advanced Course (13 weeks duration)
Learner is able to understand a wide range of demanding, longer texts, and recognize implicit meaning. Learner is able to express himself/herself fluently and spontaneously without much obvious searching for expressions. Learner is able to use language flexibly and effectively for social, academic and professional purposes. Learner is able to produce clear, well-structured, detailed text on complex subjects, showing controlled use of organizational patterns, connectors and cohesive devices.

Another way of learning Indonesian is by attending the common face-to-face learning, by attending an Indonesian course held in Avenue de Tervuren 294, 1150 Brussels.
