On 6 March 2017, the Indonesian Ambassador to Brazil, H.E. Toto Riyanto, officially announced the formation of the organization for Indonesian Diaspora in Brazil. Around 30 people attended the inauguration which took place at the Indonesian Trade Promotion Center (ITPC) office in Sao Paulo.
For the inauguration, the Ambassador presented the Advisers of the organization with a certificate and also supporting infrastructure in the form of a website domain and social media accounts (Facebook and Twitter) to be maintained by the organization.
In his remarks, the Ambassador conveyed the message that the Indonesian Diaspora plays a strategic role in supporting the Government of Indonesia, particularly in relation with economic diplomacy and protection of Indonesian citizens and legal entities in the accredited country. Therefore, the Ambassador expressed hope that members would be actively involved in the organization. The Ambassador also stated that aside from the central organization in Sao Paulo, there were plans to establish branches in the cities of Rio de Janeiro and Curitiba, where there are significant concentrations of Indonesian community.
