As part of its Independence Day celebration, the Indonesian Embassy in Bern held various activities, which were joined by Indonesian community in Switzerland. On 23 July 2011, Indonesian families along with their children participated in the Family Day, which offered various games for children as well as for the parents. In his speech, the Ambassador of Indonesia, Djoko Susilo told the children to always be respectful to parents, noble, and accomplish success without forgetting their roots. Children looked very enthusiastic in joining several games, such as coloring, inserting a pencil into a bottle, inserting a flag into a bottle, spoon race, etc. Children and their parents also participated in crackers eating game, dancing, tying a rope, as well as plastic sack racing, traditionally known as balap karung. This time participant had to place both of their legs inside a plastic sack, instead of gunny sacks. Two Indonesian Chess Maestro, Susanto Megaranto (Grand Master) and Chelsea Monica Ignesias Sihite (International Master), which were due to participate in the 44th International Chess Festival in Biel, Switzerland, also came to this Family Day. They needed only a few minutes to beat Indonesian local chess maestro from Bern, such as Chandra Novianto, Gunawan, Hendra and Bambang. All children were very happy, as each of them got present from the Embassy at the end of the celebration. The participants, old and young, women and men, were mixed and gathered in one spirit, i.e. togetherness. It was indeed a time for all Indonesian living in Switzerland and Liechtenstein to celebrate being Indonesia.
