[Wuhan,
22/5/2012]- Indonesian Ambassador to the People’s Republic of China and
concurrently to Mongolia, H.E. Imron Cotan visited Zhongnan Economics
and Law School University, in the capital city of Hubei Province, Wuhan, on 22
May 2012. The visit was to attend the donation ceremony of scholarship
amounting 1 million RMB provided by the House of Indonesia. Ambassador Cotan’s visit was in his capacity as the Honorary Chairman
of the House of Indonesia, and accompanied by the Chairman of House of
Indonesia, Mr. Huang Bo, who was also the university’s alumni.
Ambassador Cotan was received by the Chairman
of the General Council for the Education and Development Foundation, Professor Xu Dunkai and Vice President Zhongnan Economics and Law School University, Professor
Zhou Jingming.
During the
meeting, Ambassador Cotan glossed that education was
important for a country, especially for country as big as China, to nurture the
country’s future leaders. It was hoped that the scholarship provided by the
House of Indonesia would promote Indonesia to the Chinese students. Since its
establishment on 2010, House of Indonesia has been working closely with
partners both from Indonesia and China, including Indonesia Representative
Offices in China, in order to boost cooperation and understanding between
peoples of the two countries.
Chairman of
House of Indonesia pointed out the significance of Indonesia, particularly how
Indonesia has been an influential country in economic and political forums in
the region. It was very much expected that Indonesia would play a much bigger
role globally in the future. Thus, from now on, Chinese young generation should
consider to deepening their understanding about Indonesia.
At the same
time, Ambassador Cotan also gave a public lecture
before 100 more students of the university. In his lecture, Ambassador Cotan underlined the importance of our region which in
recent years has become the engine of global growth and development, in time
when crisis still lingered in Europe and North America. China’s development consequently
has been this region’s stimulating economic growth, whereby Indonesia and ASEAN
in a larger context were also constructively involved in the joint efforts to
establish security, prosperity and stability in this region.
The students
actively participated in the discussion with Ambassador Cotan.
His optimism shared by the audience, while these future financiers from Wuhan were
very much aware of the world’s current affairs, aside from studying and busying
themselves with their campus routines. Although most of the questions were
hinged on China’s national interest in the region, the students were
enthusiastically curious about how Indonesia would consider itself to play a
role in managing the conflict in the South China Sea and to the implication of the
inclusion of the United States and Russia in the East Asia Summit.
Zhongnan Economics and Law School University is one of the
leading universities in China with good reputation for subjects like business,
financial and law. The university was established in 1949, and nowadays most of
its alumni work in the government institution such as the Ministry of Finance
and leading private companies
During his visit
to Wuhan, Ambassador Cotan also took the opportunity
to watch the Thomas Cup and Uber Cup championships
and shared some thoughts to the Indonesian national team together with Chairman
of Indonesian Badminton Association, General Djoko Santoso.
