The Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia in Bangkok took part in the seminar titled the Role of ASEAN Chairmanship as part of "ASEAN Week: ASEAN Beyond 2015" event held by the ASEAN Studies Center of Chulalongkorn University from 24-27 July 2012 in celebrating the 45th anniversary of ASEAN.

During the fifth session of the seminar, on 26 July 2012, the Ambassador gave a comprehensive presentation on the significant role of Indonesia Chairmanships on ASEAN, which since its first Chairmanship in 1976, Indonesia has continuously led ASEAN to move forward. The Ambassador also stressed that Indonesia not only plays an important role in each of its chairmanship on ASEAN, but beyond that, Indonesia always exercises its leadership particularly in the transformation of ASEAN, quoting the Minister of the Republic of Indonesia statement on Indonesia Chairmanship on ASEAN: “Being the Chair of ASEAN is a matter of annual rotation; but leadership in ASEAN entails generating positive contribution to the development of the ASEAN Community, a process that does not end with the conclusion of the Chairmanship period but continues to move forward.”

Also present at the session as speaker was Mr. Arthayudh Srisamoot, Director-General, Department of ASEAN Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand. The session was attended among others by academicians and students from Chulalongkorn University and other institution/universities, diplomatic corps and media.(avc/ras)
