The procedures of the foreign correspondent assignment in Indonesia are:

Foreign Media must send proposal letter to Minister for Communication and Informatics, through Indonesian Missions abroad regarding the assignment of their foreign media’s correspondent in Indonesia. Please attach the letter of assignment from the News Agency/Editor and other supporting documents;

Indonesian Missions abroad will forward the proposal to Ministry of Foreign Affairs c.q. Directorate of Information and Media Services with file copy send to Ministry of Communication and Informatics c.q. Directorate General of Communication Facility and Information Dissemination, Ministry of Legal Affairs and Human Rights c.q. Directorate General of Immigration, Ministry of Manpower and Transmigration c.q. Directorate General of Manpower Placement Training, and related institution;

Permit will be given from the agreement of interdepartmental-meeting under coordination of Ministry of Foreign Affairs after the plan of foreign correspondent assignment in Indonesia get its permission from Minister for Communication and Informatics (according to PP No. 49, dated November 16, 2005 regarding Pedoman Kegiatan Peliputan Lembaga Penyiaran Asing).

Foreign correspondents who already get the permit to work in Indonesia, are obligated to report to Directorate of Information and Media Services, Ministry of Foreign Affairs to collect:

Information letter for related institution: Ministry of Legal Affairs and Human Rights for Stay Permit, Ministry of Manpower and Transmigration for Work Permit and Police Headquarter for Police Registration Card;

Foreign correspondents who already get the abovementioned permit from related institutions, the Directorate of Information and Media Services, Ministry of Foreign Affairs will issue a press card/press ID for the mentioned journalist;

To collect this press card, the foreign correspondent must attach the recommendation letter from his/her News Agency/Editor, copy of passport, copy of Stay Permit, copy of Work Permit, copy of Police Registration Card, Copy of information letter stated his/her address in Jakarta from District Officials and two coloured photographs (3X4 cm).

According to Minister for Foreign Affairs Regulation number 09/A/KP/XII/2006/01 on 28th of December 2006 (point “53.b”), foreign correspondent must domicile in Jakarta.
