SEMINAR “47 YEARS INDONESIA-ETHIOPIA: TO REJUVENATE AND ENHANCE BILATERAL RELATIONS” ADDIS ABABA UNIVERSITY, NOVEMBER 21ST 2011
The Indonesian Embassy in cooperation with Addis Ababa University and Addis Ababa Chamber of Commerce and Sectoral Association organized Seminar “47 YEARS INDONESIA-ETHIOPIA: TO REJUVENATE AND ENHANCE BILATERAL RELATIONS”. This seminar held on November 21st 2011 at the Eshetu Chole Building, Addis Ababa University.
The seminar was officially opened by the Indonesian Ambassador to Ethiopia, H.E. Mr. Ramli Saud who delivered keynote speech conveying a general overview of Indonesia and current state of bilateral relations. He outlined the vision Ethiopia his vision on enhancing the relations towards advanced level the future. Following his remarks, the Vice President for Research & Dean, School of Graduates Studies of Addis Ababa University, Prof. Masresha Fetene, delivered a speech.
The seminar saw assorted experts speakers in their respective fields, to mention a few, Prof. Dr. Pramod K. Mishra, Ph.D, and Deputy Addis Ababa Chamber of Commerce and Sectoral Associations, Mr. Teferi Asfaw.
The seminar aimed to enhance cooperative future between Indonesia and Ethiopia that has been established 47 years ago with multi-track diplomacy system, which is “Government to Government”, “Bussines to Bussines” and “Poeple to People” contact. Two topics which became the theme of the seminar were concerned with foreign policy in countering terrorism between Indonesia and Ethiopia case studies. In the economic field, cooperation that has existed between Indonesia and Ethiopia (Addis Ababa Chamber of Commerce and Sectoral Association focused on the efforts made in improving trade relations between the two countries.
During the discussion session, the enthusiasm of participants in the seminar was very high. Seminar participants consisted of academicians, officials and students with approximately 150 people provided questions and expressed their own opinions.
The half-day seminar was covered by local and national media Ethiopia, which are Ethiopian News Agency, Ethiopian television, and Media and Communication Center-REPORTER Addis Ababa. On occasion, the media interviewed the Ambassador on the activities and bilateral relations between Indonesia-Ethiopia, including the plan to form "Friends of Indonesia" which is a loose organization for Ethiopian community to be familiar with Indonesia with Ethiopians which will be launched in the near future.
