Indonesia Contributes to the empowerment of Small and Medium Enterprises in Creative Industry in Afghanistan, Iraq, Mozambique and Somalia Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia in cooperation with the Institute of Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development, Bandung Institute of Technology is organizing International Training Program on Business Incubator to Develop Small and Medium Enterprises: Focusing on Creative Industry in, Bandung, Indonesia from 14 to 23 July 2010 attended by 11 participants from 5 countries namely Afghanistan, Iraq, Mozambique, Somalia and Indonesia. The opening ceremony was held on 14 July 2010 at Grand Seriti Hotel, Bandung, Indonesia. Director for Technical Cooperation, Ministry of Foreign Affairs Ms. Siti Nugraha Mauludiah officially opened the training program. In her opening remarks, she said that this program was an implementation of Indonesia’s commitment in supporting human resources development in participating countries. This commitment was expressed during London Conference on Afghanistan in 2009, International Conference of Islamic Leaders for Reconciliation of Iraq in 2007 and SOM NAASP 2009 on Somalia. The training program was also the implementation of Indonesia’s commitment conveyed during the Joint Comission between Indonesia and Mozambique. The training aims to strengthen cooperation between Indonesia and the participating countries and promote Indonesia’s image in fellow developing countries. This undertaking is a part of public diplomacy manifested in capacity building program for human resources in small and medium enterprises development especially in the field of creative industry. Through the training, Indonesia wishes to share its experiences in small and medium enterprises development especially in creative industry sector. Indonesia’s SMEs is proven resilient and resistant during the economic crisis. The program is expected to inspire participants to develop a similar system to empower and enhance the economy especially in the isolated conflict areas of Afghanistan, Iraq, Palestine and Somalia. The program comprises 60% class session and 40% field trip and practice. During the training the participants will visit creative industry centers located in Bandung and its surroundings namely Baros Community Cyber City, Creative Industry Village Ranca Kalong, Saung Angklung Mang Udjo, boots craftsmen (Tegep boots), Suparjan Gallery and Selasar Sunaryo. At the end of the training, participants will make action plans based on the knowledge gained from the training to develop business incubator for small and medium enterprises.
