COURSE ON FINANCING SCHEME IN ISLAMIC BANKING & FINANCE FOR ASIA–MIDDLE EAST DIALOGUE (AMED) MEMBER COUNTRIES
JAKARTA, INDONESIA 17 - 19 SEPTEMBER 2012

Introduction

Over the years, the Islamic banking and finance industry has witnessed remarkable growth in business and tremendous demand for its products and services. More recently, the global Islamic finance industry offers a broad and sophisticated range of financial products with approximately $1.3 trillion in designated assets. Further innovation and development is underway to continuously attract new players not only in Muslim countries but also in non-Muslim countries such as United Kingdom, Germany, Australia, Hong Kong, and Singapore. This, coupled with the existence of more than 620 Islamic Financial Institutions operating in over 75 countries will be likely to further propel Islamic banking and finance industry to greater heights.
 
In light of this achievement, the International Center for Development in Islamic Finance (ICDIF), in cooperation with Bank Indonesia and Ministry of Foreign Affairs is proud to hold the Course on Financing Scheme in Islamic Banking & Finance, previously held twice in Jakarta in November 2010 and November 2011. Participants of this Course will have a chance to learn in-depth about financing scheme in Islamic banking and financial system, covering general and sharia specific aspects of financial management.
 
This Course is a direct follow up from our basic program, Course on Islamic Banking & Finance, which was previously held four times in Jakarta on November 2009, October 2010, September 2011 and April 2012 as part of the Executive Plan of Action for Cooperation among the Asia - Middle-East Dialogue Members. The program is a reflection of Indonesia’s commitment to continuously enhance its cooperation with AMED participating countries as conveyed at AMED II Ministerial Meeting in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt on 5-6 April 2008 and AMED III Ministerial Meeting in Bangkok, Thailand on 15-16 December 2010. Furthermore, Indonesia has conducted 6 (six) successive training programs on Islamic banking and finance (basic and advanced level) over the past 4 (four) years. These training programs have been attended by 147 participants from AMED participating countries, namely: Afghanistan, Algeria, Saudi Arabia, Bangladesh, Brunei, China, Iran, Iraq, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Jordan, Libya, Malaysia, Maldives, Republic of Korea, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Tunisia, Turkey, United Arab Emirates and Indonesia.

AMED participating countries are Afghanistan, Algeria, Bahrain, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Brunei, Cambodia, China, Comoros, Djibouti, Egypt, India, Indonesia, Iran, Iraq, Japan, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Kuwait, Kyrgyzstan, Laos, Lebanon, Libya, Malaysia, Maldives, Mauritania, Morocco, Myanmar, Nepal, Oman, Pakistan, Palestine, Philippines, Qatar, Republic of Korea, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Singapore, Somalia, Sri Lanka, Sudan, Syria, Tajikistan, Thailand, Tunisia, Turkey, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Vietnam and Yemen.

Objectives

Upon completion of this course, participants will acquire comprehensive overview regarding:

• The philosophy and concepts of Islamic Financing;
• The types of Islamic debt financing products including product implementation, financing analysis and risk management. Apart from that, this topic will refresh the understanding on Sharia contracts of Islamic debt financing;
• The Islamic equity financing products and structure including product implementation, financing analysis and risk management;
• Islamic syndication and project financing implementation;
• The Sovereign Sharia Securities (Sukuk) structures and features product from both Investor’s and Issuer’s perspective.
 
Methodology

The Course will be highly interactive, incorporating presentations, lectures, field visit and discussions. Participants are expected to participate actively in order to gain maximum benefits from the Course.

Participants

This course is beneficial for anyone who wishes to learn about Islamic banking and finance transactions and for investment managers who deal with Islamic Banking and Finance products. This course is also useful for banking and financial regulators. Due to limited capacity, only 40 successful candidates will be accepted as participants of this course on first come first serve basis. Participants are expected to be in good health and are responsible for their own personal health.
 
Resource Persons

The instructors for the Course will be practitioners and technical experts (national and international), as well as regulators from Bank Indonesia.
 
Program Structure

The Financing Scheme in Islamic Banking and Finance program starts in the morning and ends in the afternoon. The program is conducted for 3 (three) days in class intensively and 3 (three) days trip to Bali Island (optional) or 2 (two) days trip to City of Yogyakarta (optional).

6. Regulation on Islamic Financing (2 sessions)

Date and Time

The course will be held on 17 - 19 September 2012, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM. An optional field trip to Bali Island will be held on 20 - 22 September 2012 (two nights stay at Bali Island) or City of Yogyakarta on 20 - 21 September 2012 (one night stay at Yogyakarta).

The official date of arrival and departure of course participants are 16 September 2012 and 20 September 2012 respectively. For course participants attending the Bali Island trip, official date of arrival and departure are 16 September 2012 and 23 September 2012 respectively. For course participants attending the City of Yogyakarta trip, official date of arrival and departure are 16 September 2012 and 22 September 2012 respectively. Any participant who wishes to extend their stay beyond the specified date should arrange their own accommodation accordingly. Additional stay at the campus dormitory will be incurred a per night charge.

Accommodation

The organizing committee will provide accommodations in the newly built dormitory within LPPI Campus grounds (1 person per room) free of charge from 16 - 20 September 2012, 16 - 23 September 2012 for course participants attending the Bali Island trip and 16 - 22 September 2012 for course participants attending the City of Yogyakarta trip.
Registration and Confirmation Details

Each participant should fill in the Registration Form as attached and send it to the Organizer no later than 10 September 2012 (Subject to change based upon availability. Please contact us directly regarding available seats after this date.) Seat is confirmed only upon receipt of payment (first come first serve basis).
After receiving payment a receipt will be issued. Upon request, original Invoice will be presented to delegates at the event. If you do not receive a letter outlining joining details two weeks prior to the event, please contact the event coordinator at ICDIF-LPPI. Due to limited capacity, we advise early registration.
