Indonesian contingent succeeded in the SEA 7th Youth Athletic Championship. The race was for young athlete in South East Asia was held on 28 to 29 April 2012 at Bishan Stadium, Singapore. With the power of 49 athletes and 5 officials, Indonesian contingent won 6 gold medals, 6 silver and 6 bronze medals.
One of Indonesian athlete was not only won a gold medal, but also broke a new record in the girls 1,000 m dash, namely Aprilia Kartina.
Acting Minister for Community Development, Youth and Sports Singapore, Chan Chun Sing, in his speech said that the competitors at the championship are the region’s leading youth athletes, so therefore the expectation the contests to be filled with displays of skills and determination.
Chan Chun Sing further stated that the sport is not just about winning. However, in sports there is also about participation and bonding. "I believe that through this competition the athletes will forge close relationships with each other, so you will know the culture of each country" said Chan Chun Sing.
The Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia, Andri Hadi, also got an opportunity to give medals to the winners, especially the boys and girls 4 x 100m relay, boys shot-put and boys long jump.
Here are the names of the athletes winning medals:
Gold: Ni Putu Yogiswari, Irene Alisyahbana, Tresna Puspita Gusti Ayu, Aprilia Kartina, Tim Estafet Putri, and Narta Hanny Sugara.
Silver: Alvine Tehupeiory, Sapwaturrahman, M.Zulkifli, Emilia Nova, Risky Latip, and Kresno Nugroho.
Bronze: Eka Cahaya, Arasy Akbar Witarsa, Hadi Nur Ikhsan, Men Estafet Team, Men Estafet U21 Team, dan Lora Yulindasari. (source: Indonesian Embassy, Singapore)
